Practice and the weak-area focus slider

How practice sessions are built and what the focus slider does.

For parents & children

How practice works

A practice session is a set of questions chosen for you. A grown-up can set one as a task, or a child can start one from their home page.

Each session has:

  • A topic — one topic, or all topics mixed.
  • A difficulty — from Easy up to Advanced and CSSE Style, or Mixed.
  • A number of questions — from 1 to 60.
  • A weak-area focus — explained below.

Every question has a worked explanation, so a wrong answer is a chance to learn the method.

The weak-area focus slider

The slider sets how much of the session comes from the topics you find hardest, worked out from your own results.

  • At least 25% of every session targets the gaps — the slider never goes lower.
  • Move it up to make the session focus more on weak areas.
  • If a single topic is chosen, the slider targets the hardest areas inside that topic instead.

The slider remembers where you left it on this device. When a grown-up sets a practice task, the session uses the focus they chose.
